Another special feature of margoum carpets is that they are woven according to the most ancient traditions: the margoum backing is woven like a kilim, and the motifs are embroidered with knots, as on a classic carpet, but on the reverse side. As a result, margoum has no pile, but a smooth appearance with relief. On the reverse side, wool return threads testify to the handmade authenticity of this rug. Margoum is based on the Arabic rhombus pattern "regma", which is where the word "mergoum" comes from. However, margoum is originally Berber, and rhombuses symbolize fertility. There are three main types of pattern: a large number of small lozenges, medium lozenges or large central lozenges. All our handmade carpets are inspected by the quality control department of the Office National de l'Artisanat. A certificate of authenticity accompanies each piece.
