Product description
The history of Murano glass dates back to the 8th century. By the 12th century, Venice had become very popular for fine glass products. To keep the trade in glass products unique and profitable, a law was introduced in 1271 that stipulated that no foreign glass could be imported for production and no foreign glass workers could be employed. In the 13th century, however, all glass production facilities were moved by law from Venice to Murano because the fire from the furnaces posed a great risk to Venice's wooden structures. These two laws ensured that Murano glass is still unique today; made by artists and artisans from a small group of Italian islands. The secrets of glass making are passed down from father to son and master to apprentice.
