Product description
Hand-blown Vase in Scavo technique, Murano or Murano surroundings, presumably 1960s to 1970s.
The form quotes Roman glass vessels from the 1st to 3rd centuries: a bulbous, softly drawn body, a high conical neck, a folded plate mouth, plus an applied thread spiral that winds over the entire height of the neck.
Scavo (Italian for excavation) refers to a process by which Murano, from the 1950s onwards, created the impression of ancient archaeological finds. The hot blank is rolled in metal oxide and mineral powder, which, when melted, forms the characteristic open-pored, silky shimmering surface and dark inclusions. In this piece, the inclusions are finely dendritic, branching like a fern.
The sequence of work can be read from the object: The clear thread spiral was applied only after the powder coating and therefore remained smooth and shiny, while the body is rough. The base is pontil-marked, the pontil scar in the center smoothed.
The piece is unsigned, as is typical for Scavo glass of these years. Its formal language, technique, and base treatment are close to the works of Cenedese and Seguso Vetri d'Arte, but a named attribution is not verifiable without a mark.
Salmon pink is significantly rarer in the Scavo repertoire than the common blue, gray, and white tones.

Very good. No chips, no cracks, no restorations, no scratches. The rough surface and dark inclusions are technique-specific and intentionally designed, not dirt or a defect. Slight asymmetry in form and minimally irregular stand due to craftsmanship.
