Product description
This is a large ceramic sculpture, 50 cm high, of a 'Muñeca sin Rostro' or 'faceless doll', an iconic craft product from the Dominican Republic. These figures, often called Muñecas Limé, are a celebrated symbol of Dominican culture and identity, where the absence of facial features represents the country's diverse ethnic backgrounds. The sculpture is made of terracotta, which is visible in the unworked, matte finish of the skin. The rest of the figure is finished with a glossy glaze. The color palette consists of a vibrant, marbled blue hue for the dress, bright white for the ruffled collar, and a deep green color for the hat and braid. A sticker on the bottom confirms its origin: 'Made in Dominican Republic'. The overall condition of the sculpture is good and consistent with its handmade origin. The variations in the glaze and shape contribute to the unique character of the piece. It is an authentic example of folk art, where each doll is hand-formed and painted, ensuring no two are exactly alike.
