A beautiful, large vintage kokeshi doll by Makoto Kimura.
Makoto Kimura is a renowned Japanese woodturner and artist specializing in modern, creative kokeshi dolls (sosaku kokeshi). His work is distinguished by the use of natural wood varieties, inventive shapes (such as bamboo or cone-like forms for the hair and unique kimono designs), and a refined finish.
Many of his creations—such as dolls inspired by traditional figures or themes (like Kaguya-hime or specific kimono styles)—combine clean woodworking with subtle, hand-engraved or painted details.
This kokeshi features a detailed, carved, and grooved natural-wood hairstyle, topped with a striking red hair ornament. She has a minimalist yet expressive face with refined, hand-painted eye details. She wears a bright red-orange kimono, elegantly decorated with recessed, engraved star-shaped floral motifs. A sticker indicates that she was purchased at Lake Yamanaka in Japan. This piece makes for an atmospheric and stylish eye-catcher in any interior or a valuable addition to a collection.
The height is 22 cm; please view the photos for the condition.
Please note: These items are not new, so there will always be some degree of scratching, discoloration, and/or minor cracks or dents.
