Monumental Fire-Gilded Buddha – Ladakh / Sino-Tibetan – ca. 1820–1880 An exceptional temple object of museum size, characterized by a rare three-part construction and an uninterrupted European provenance since the 1970s. The meander and floral motifs have been struck with great precision into the cold bronze, a hallmark of high-quality 19th-century workshops. The presence of a red coral stone (urna) and the robust, hammered copper base plate indicate an origin from the Ladakh region. Surface examination under UV light confirms its authenticity; the observed yellow-green fluorescence indicates the natural oxidation of ancient organic resins applied to protect the gilding. Provenance This sculpture has demonstrably been in Europe since the early 1970s. It was part of the inventory of an exclusive villa in the German Sauerland and was later exhibited in a renowned antique dealership in the same region.
