Red velvet Molteni Gio Ponti armchair
Gio Ponti D.151.4: an extremely comfortable armchair designed by renowned designer Giovanni 'Gio' Ponti (1891 – 1979) for the Italian design brand Molteni. Gio Ponti, one of the leading Italian architects of the early twentieth century, and always passionate about nautical furniture, originally developed the D.151.4 in the early 1950s for six major international ships, including two cruise ships. Today, the D.151.4 is one of the iconic items in the Molteni collection. The organic contours of the D.151.4 emphasize the sublime comfort and special design of this designer armchair. Where seat and backrest merge seamlessly in many cases, Gio Ponti has opted for two separate, complementary elements for the design of this armchair: a design choice that has created a special appearance. The seat cushion of the armchair seems to be supported by the two American walnut rear legs, while the flowing back and armrests are supported by the two front legs of the elegant base.
