Modular sofa with coffee table designed by Studio DA by Cesare Casati for Sormani, 1970s. The project reflects the research into modular and flexible furniture that characterized Italian design of that decade.
The system is composed of independent seating elements with molded plastic shells, designed to be freely combined to create different configurations, from a single armchair to larger modular compositions. The soft and compact lines of the structure interact with the geometry of the upholstered cushions, defined by radial stitching that shapes the seat.
A distinctive feature of the design is its versatility: the chair can be used either with the upholstered cushion or without it, revealing the molded shell which still maintains an ergonomic seating form.
The set is completed by the matching coffee table, also made of molded plastic, featuring a top divided into functional compartments intended to hold objects, glasses or small accessories, perfectly reflecting the informal and convivial spirit of 1970s interiors.
A representative modular seating system from Sormani’s production of the period, characterized by great compositional freedom and a formal language typical of Italian radical design.
