Product description
An elegant modernist executive Desk, model 'Standard', manufactured by the renowned Belgian furniture maker De Coene Frères from Kortrijk in the 1950s.
This special Desk, part of De Coene's post-war 'Standard' office furniture collection, reflects the understated geometric forms and functional principles characteristic of Belgian post-war modernism.
The 'Standard' collection is tentatively attributed to the Belgian designer Paul Vandenbulcke, who was closely involved with De Coene's furniture design department during that period.
The Desk is made of oak veneer and features a beautifully balanced, architectural composition: a generously sized rectangular top rests on two robust cabinet volumes, each with three drawers.
The design stands out with its clean geometric lines, integrated horizontal wooden drawer pulls, and characteristic angled side panels, which give the Desk a powerful, sculptural appearance.
The warm, honey-colored oak wood shows a beautiful, pronounced grain structure and an attractive natural patina that has developed over decades. The Desk top is protected by a custom-made glass plate, further enhancing the refined modernist aesthetic of the furniture.
The Desk is in good vintage condition, with traces of age and use consistent with its history.
A striking example of Belgian 'mid-century' modernism, combining architectural proportions, functional design, and the refined craftsmanship for which De Coene Frères was known.
Dimensions: W 160 × D 80 × H 77 cm.
