About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This is a Model 1000 bench, an iconic design by Walter Pabst for the German manufacturer Wilkhahn. This piece, crafted from fiberglass, is an excellent example of the innovative use of materials and sculptural forms characteristic of the Space Age era. Its monolithic and flowing silhouette makes it a striking object in any space.
The bench is entirely made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, a material that was revolutionary at the time due to its strength, lightness, and moldability. This particular piece comes in a light grey, almost beige color with a distinctive textured finish. Produced in West Germany, as indicated on the original manufacturer's label, this design represents Wilkhahn's progressive aesthetics in the 60s and 70s. The bench was originally intended for public spaces and offices, which explains its durable construction.
The overall condition of the bench is good and consistent with its age and use. The surface shows an authentic patina that enhances the character of the vintage object. Its structural integrity is excellent, and the bench retains its original shape and finish, contributing to its historical value.
Due to its robust construction and weather-resistant material, this bench is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, for example, in a garden or on a covered terrace. It is a statement piece that seamlessly fits into a Mid-Century Modern, Brutalist, or minimalist interior, where it can serve as functional seating or as an autonomous sculptural element.
