Miniature Saint Christopher medal, patron saint of travelers. Octagonal openwork mount in gilded metal (gilded brass), four gilded rivets at the corners. Central medallion with translucent sky-blue enamel depicting Saint Christopher carrying the Infant Jesus on his shoulder, crossing a stream, pilgrim's staff in hand. Reverse: central mother-of-pearl pink medallion, patinated gilded mount. Soldered suspension ring. Dimensions: less than 1 cm (miniature piece) (circa ). Very good general condition, intact enamel without chips, gilded mount with beautiful old patina. This miniature format is characteristic of baptismal or crib medals, worn on a birth bracelet or sewn into an infant's clothing, a tradition very common in France until the 1960s. The riveted octagonal openwork mount and the painted translucent enamel indicate careful French manufacturing from the interwar period. To be compared with the Saint Thérèse medal from the same lot, of identical style and period. Worn on a fine chain or offered in a case for a baptism, a departure for a journey, or a birth gift.
