For sale is an exquisite example of post-war Finnish craftsmanship: a sculptural relief vase made of stoneware, designed by Göran Bäck for the renowned manufacturer Arabia Finland.
Design & Aesthetics:
This vase captivates with its rigorous, architectural grid relief – a hallmark of Finnish Modernism of the early 1960s. The reactive manganese glaze gives the piece a metallic-looking surface that shifts between deep anthracite, dark bronze, and midnight blue depending on the light. Its oval shape makes it a particularly elegant piece for narrow consoles or sideboards.

Condition:
The piece is in very good vintage condition. There are no abrasions, chips, or cracks. As is typical for objects of this age and with this particular glaze, very close inspection reveals slight, superficial signs of wear (fine scratches), which underscore the authentic patina of this over 60-year-old design piece.
