Product description
This striking vintage ashtray is a bold example of the iconic “Fat Lava” style, created by renowned Dutch ceramicist Jan van Erp. Crafted in the mid-20th century, the piece features a rugged, tactile black glaze typical of Fat Lava ceramics, paired with a vivid, high-gloss red and orange lava glaze pool in the center, accented by bursts of yellow and green.
The rectangular form with grooved rests on each side adds both functionality and artistic flair, making it perfect as a display piece or collector’s item. Van Erp’s work is highly sought after for its distinctive texture and bold color contrasts, and this ashtray is no exception. Its rich, volcanic-inspired glazing and mid-century modern aesthetic make it a standout item for any retro or design-savvy interior.
Whether used decoratively or practically, this is a fantastic example of West German pottery with a Dutch twist.
