Product description
This modular sofa likely originated in Italy in the 1970s. Its structure is based on metal tubes that form independent frames for the individual modules. These are supported by soft, loose seat and back cushions made of beige cotton canvas. The individual elements can be connected using metal connectors inserted into the structure, allowing the sofa's configuration to be adjusted depending on the available space. This solution fits well with the Italian design of the 1970s, when the development of modular furniture allowed for a shift away from the traditional, compact sofa form in favor of more flexible seating systems. The sofa is in very good original condition and is fully assembled. The upholstery fabric has been laundered. The metal tubes show signs of use and age, including subtle scratches, patina, discoloration, and minor chrome chipping. The simple metal structure remains visible and contrasts with the soft, generous cushions. The combination of these two elements gives the sofa a light, informal character typical of the 1970s, while also preventing it from appearing heavy despite its size. The form aligns well with the aesthetics of Italian mid-century modern and Space Age, which experimented with new methods of furniture construction, including the use of metal profiles and modular seating arrangements. A similar approach can be found in many Italian lounge systems from this period. The greatest advantage of this set is its composability.
