Product description
The GE55 sofa, designed by the preeminent Danish architect Hans J. Wegner, is a definitive example of mid-century Scandinavian furniture production. Manufactured by Getama in Denmark, this three-seater silhouette exemplifies Wegner's mastery of proportion and his enduring commitment to functional, unpretentious design.
Constructed with a robust solid wood frame, the piece features a warm, natural finish that highlights the organic grain of the timber. The sofa is upholstered in a tactile brown textile, providing a harmonious contrast against the lighter wooden structure. The design incorporates a distinctive angled backrest and wide, flat armrests that offer both visual weight and practical comfort. The original manufacturer's label from Getama is preserved on the frame, confirming its authentic Danish provenance and historical lineage.
This vintage piece remains in highly commendable condition, reflecting careful preservation over the decades. The wooden frame retains its structural integrity and original patina, while the textile upholstery is well-maintained, presenting a clean and cohesive aesthetic. The materials have aged gracefully, acquiring a subtle character that only authentic mid-century pieces possess.
Ideal for a refined living space or a curated study, this Hans J. Wegner sofa anchors a room with its architectural presence. It integrates seamlessly into Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian, or contemporary organic interiors, pairing exceptionally well with other timber-framed lounge chairs and minimalist coffee tables.
