Product description

A teak sideboard made in Germany in the 1960s. Its long, low form is typical of modernism of the period. On the left are two sliding doors with round, recessed wooden pulls, and on the right three drawers with wave-shaped, sculpted fronts that double as handles. The body is gently rounded at the base and stands on slender, tapered legs joined by stretchers. What makes this sideboard truly special is the front of the sliding doors. It was hand-painted by a talented local artist, inspired by Op Art, the 1960s movement that played with geometry, contrast and the illusion of movement. A composition of half-circles and rectangles in orange, bottle green, black, white and red creates a rhythmic, mirrored pattern across the front. Each time the doors slide, the composition changes, so the piece looks a little different every time. The vivid colours contrast beautifully with the warm, dark tone of the teak, combining a classic 1960s form with a contemporary, artistic character. It is a one-of-a-kind piece that instantly becomes the focal point of any room. The sideboard is also very practical. Behind the sliding doors are two spacious compartments with shelves, and the three drawers with light wood interiors hold cutlery, table linen or documents. Sliding doors need no space to open, and at 220 cm wide the sideboard is ideal for a living or dining room, or as a TV unit. The piece has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. Thanks to these treatments, the sideboard looks stunning and will serve its new owner for many years without fear of damage or wear from everyday use.
