Beautiful vintage coffee table, designed by John Herbert and produced by Scottish furniture maker A Younger Ltd. in the 1960s. Interesting to know: the collaboration between Herbert and Younger was at the heart of the shift toward Scandinavian-inspired design in England, setting a new tone for modern British interiors.
We picked up this gem in Amsterdam, but according to the previous owner, it originally came from a vintage dealer in London. She bought the table when she was still living and working there. It's a piece with a wonderful story and already has a lot of mileage on the odometer!
This coffee table has been meticulously restored in our workshop. The elegant teak frame has regained its rich, warm appearance. The top also displays its original charm, and the grain is richly visible. The color difference between the top and the frame is subtle: the top is slightly lighter, creating a refined and vibrant contrast that perfectly complements the design.
The table stands firmly on its legs and features a generous magazine rack made of rattan, which is completely free of damage. Perfect for magazines, books, a blanket, or even snacks. For the younger generation, digital reading is also allowed, of course!
The frame is organically shaped and of exceptional quality, precisely what Younger is so renowned for. The interplay of natural materials creates an airy yet elegant and chic look. The design exudes a Scandinavian aesthetic, yet is proudly Scottish. A relatively rare mid-century gem that will continue to be lovingly used for years to come.
