Product description
The Artifort Penguin armchair is an iconic example of innovative Dutch design from the 1950s. This specific example has been fully restored (refinished) while retaining its authentic character.
Designer & Origin: Designed in 1953 by Theo Ruth, Artifort's first permanent designer. The design is inspired by traditional African chairs from the Belgian Congo.
Construction: The armchair is renowned for its ingenious construction of just two separate base elements that slide together at forked ends. Gravity then holds the chair securely in place.
Restoration: This refinished version features new upholstery and high-quality cowhide leather upholstery, while the original steel interior and bi-conical springs have been retained for optimal seating comfort.
