Product description
A vintage German arched display cabinet in teak veneer and clear glass, made by Brinkmann in Germany and estimated to date from the 1980s. With its tall architectural silhouette, glazed double doors, internal glass shelving and integrated lighting, this sculptural vintage vitrine combines late-modern German furniture design with a softer, almost architectural postmodern form.
Maker: Brinkmann
Origin: Germany
Period: 1980s
Style: Late modern / postmodern / German modern
Materials: Teak veneer, solid teak details, clear glass, metal
Dimensions: 85 W × 44.5 D × 155.5 H cm (33.5 W × 17.5 D × 61.2 H in)
Marked: Yes, with original Brinkmann maker’s label
The cabinet is defined by its beautifully rounded arch, which flows continuously from the sides across the top and gives the otherwise restrained form a strong sculptural presence. Two tall glazed doors repeat the curve of the outer shell, while slim wooden frames, understated handles and tapered legs keep the proportions light. Inside, three clear glass shelves sit against a warm veneered back panel, illuminated from above by two compact metal spotlights. The contrast between the transparent glazing and softly curved timber gives the piece a particularly elegant visual rhythm.
Brinkmann was a long-established German furniture manufacturer based in Melle-Buer, producing higher-quality residential and system furniture under the Brinkmann name. Historical company material describes the firm as a manufacturer of “exclusive branded furniture” with a tradition extending for more than 160 years. This cabinet appears to belong to the company’s later twentieth-century production, when Brinkmann increasingly combined natural wood surfaces, glass and integrated lighting within more contemporary furniture forms.
Condition
Good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The wooden surfaces show light marks, small scratches and gentle age-related wear, while the glass doors and shelves remain in good condition. The cabinet is structurally sound and both doors operate correctly. All three glass shelves are present. One glass shelf is original to the cabinet, while the other two are later custom-made replacements fitted to size.
