Product description
This is a postmodern side table, designed by Thomas Althaus for the Metafor brand. The piece is an authentic example of the iconic 'Papillon' model, a design dating from 1984 that captures the essence of its era.
The table is crafted with a sculptural, white-lacquered metal base that evokes the shape of butterfly wings, explaining the name 'Papillon'. The oval top is made of clear glass and is held in place by a distinctive brushed metal disc. This design is a prime example of Dutch postmodernism from the 1980s, combining industrial materials with playful, sculptural forms.
The object is in very good condition, retaining its original finish and structural integrity. The combination of transparent glass and the light, open base creates an airy and elegant appearance, while the construction remains solid and stable.
Thanks to its refined yet characteristic design, this 'Papillon' side table fits perfectly into various interior styles, from modern to eclectic. It is a functional and decorative object that can serve as a table next to an armchair, as a plant stand, or as a standalone design statement in a living room or hallway.
