For sale is an exquisite, five-piece ceramic set by the renowned French ceramicist Gérard Hofmann (1917–1965), crafted in his own workshop in the famous pottery town of Vallauris, France. This set is an outstanding example of the highly acclaimed French studio ceramics of the 1950s and 1960s.
The set features Hofmann's iconic, deep red manganese red, or oxblood glaze (sang de boeuf), with striking dark accents and a wonderful high gloss that develops a captivating depth in the light.
Hofmann worked during Vallauris's golden age, including as a decorator at the renowned Cérenne workshop before opening his own studio. His works reflect the avant-garde spirit of French Modernism and stand alongside the great ceramic art of that era.
