Magnificent cross-section of septarian nodules on a metal base. Septarian nodules are fossilized mud bubbles dating back 50 to 70 million years. Belgium is a major discovery site for these objects.
Scientists do not agree on the origin of the inner shape. One hypothesis is the expansion/contraction of the spheres by the gas they contain, which cannot escape.
The color palette is fantastic, with grayish, earthy and sandy tones creating a soothing atmosphere.
