This superb dining table by Massimo Vignelli for Italian producer Casigliani is composed of marble columns and glass. The three marble columns each vary in diameter, their faces systematically chipped to create a surface texture that is both rough and tactile. This process, upon closer inspection, reveals quite beautifully the innate structure, pattern and color of the stone used. The playful, refined character of the form and the intricate manufacturing technique make these pieces a truly interesting and rare example of Vignelli's design philosophy. In excellent vintage condition. Massimo Vignelli was an Italian designer active from the 1950s to the 2000s and known for his influential work in graphic design, product design and architecture. The use of glass and marble in furniture design was commonplace at mid-century. as designers explored the possibilities of new materials and techniques. Vignelli's work was particularly notable for its emphasis on form and function, and his furniture designs often featured simple, geometric shapes and clean lines.
