Hand-sculpted wooden mask. The wrathful features, its red color and the 5 skulls (the 5 afflictions, the causes of suffering) represent Mahakala, one of the greatest protective gods of practitioners and teachings in esoteric Buddhism.
Despite their often aggressive appearance, they are beneficial deities. (Protector)
The power emanating from Cham masks illustrates the immense energy required for consciousness to confront and overcome the obstacles standing in the way of spiritual liberation.
