The iconic Pipistrello table lamp, designed by the influential architect Gae Aulenti in 1965 for the renowned Italian brand Martinelli Luce, represents a highlight in European design history. This specific model, the Classic 620, is characterized by its flowing lines and the distinctive shade that mimics the outstretched wings of a bat. It is an unmistakable masterpiece of post-war Italian design that is included in various museum collections worldwide.
The fixture is crafted with a white, opalescent shade made of high-quality plastic and rests on an elegantly curved, white-lacquered metal base. A striking and innovative functional element is the telescopic stainless steel neck, which allows the height of the lamp to be infinitely adjusted from 66 to 86 centimeters. The generous diameter of the shade measures 55 centimeters, ensuring an impressive spatial presence. This particular example is a non-dimmable version and is clearly marked on the underside with the original brand markings, the model number, and the indication that it was produced in Italy. The object is in very respectable and authentic condition, with structural integrity and the original aesthetic finish excellently preserved.
