The vintage SZ62 lounge chair was designed by Martin Visser for Spectrum in 1964. A timeless example of Dutch modernist design, the chair features a distinctive chrome frame with a generously upholstered seat and backrest.
The chair has been fully restored with great attention to craftsmanship and durability. The interior has been completely rebuilt using 100% natural materials before being professionally reupholstered.
Nowadays, original natural upholstery materials are often replaced with polyurethane foam or cold-cure foam when furniture is reupholstered, primarily to reduce material and labour costs. For this chair, however, longevity, comfort and the quality of the materials were given priority.
The SZ62 has therefore been deliberately rebuilt using 100% natural materials. These materials are exceptionally durable and can last for generations. Their firm, resilient structure allows them to retain their shape remarkably well, unlike foams, which deteriorate over time and tend to lose their shape and resilience.
The result is an exceptionally comfortable lounge chair with a beautifully supportive feel. A soft-touch finishing layer beneath the upholstery gives the chair a pleasantly soft and comfortable feel, as a lounge chair should.
The use of natural materials also ensures excellent breathability and a more pleasant seating experience. Unlike synthetic foams, which are derived from petrochemicals and may continue to release chemical compounds over time, these traditional natural materials are breathable and made from renewable, natural sources.
The chair has been reupholstered in Camira Hemp Root, HWP06. The fabric is composed of 70% virgin wool and 30% true hemp, with an abrasion resistance of >50,000. Plant-based, eco-friendly and sustainable, the fabric is also naturally flame-retardant.
The beautiful melange fabric has a grey base with subtle white and bluish undertones, giving the chair a sophisticated yet distinctive appearance. Its natural texture and understated colour palette complement a wide range of interiors, from mid-century modern and contemporary spaces to more traditional interiors, where the chair adds a refined modern touch.
The underside of the seat is finished with a dust cover made from 100% grey cotton jaconas fabric.
