This work is an original watercolor and drawing by the Belgian artist Marie Louise Stradiot-Bougnet, dating from the 1930s. It portrays a figure from the Lega tribe in Congo, reflecting the artist's interest in ethnographic studies during this period.
The artwork is executed on paper, using a combination of watercolor and drawing to capture the details and posture of the subject. The color palette consists primarily of brown, black, and subtle multicolored accents, contributing to the expressive power of the portrait. The work is signed by the artist in the lower right corner and bears the annotation "Kindi".
The work is in good condition consistent with its age. The paper shows some natural discoloration and light spots, which emphasizes the authentic character of this historical piece.
This study is a valuable addition for collectors of ethnographic art or works from the early twentieth century. It comes into its own in a classic or eclectic interior, where it offers a cultural and historical perspective.
