Information about the artist:
Marcel Schellekens, born in Soerendonk in 1954, lives and works in Bergen N.H.
With his work, Schellekens shows that simple things can be beautiful. You are touched by the charm of everyday subjects. He knows how to create atmosphere through the right combination of warm colors and light in both his etchings and his paintings.
Marcel trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Utrecht in the graphics department. Since his training, he has specialized in etching techniques and has developed his own unique working method. This method has led to picturesque color etchings, where the superimposed color blocks are characteristic of the image composition. He works with three different etching plates for the basic colors red, yellow, and blue. By printing them transparently over each other, a rich range of color nuances is created.
In addition, Marcel creates paintings with oil paint on canvas and panel. Initially, these were mainly preliminary studies for his etchings, but now it has grown into an independent art form.
Since 1986, he has had exhibitions throughout the country, as well as abroad in New York, Vancouver, Tokyo, Edinburgh, and Vienna. In 1994, he received the Public Prize Graphic Now.
