This is an iconic magazine rack, designed by the Hungarian-French designer Mathieu Matégot for Arimeta in the 1950s. The piece is an excellent example of Matégot's innovative approach to material and form, characteristic of post-war modernism. The rack is made of perforated metal, a technique Matégot patented as 'Rigitulle', combined with a tubular metal frame. The vibrant red color accentuates the graphic quality and the light, almost transparent structure of the design. The construction includes a central handle for portability and elegant, curved legs that give the whole a floating appearance. This piece is in good vintage condition, with a patina that reflects the character and history of the object. The original paintwork is largely preserved, contributing to the authenticity of the piece. It is a functional yet sculptural object.
