Product description
Beautiful vintage sideboard from the 'Made to Measure' series, designed by Cees Braakman and produced by Pastoe in the 1950s. Within this series, various cabinet layouts and designs were produced according to the customer's wishes. This particular piece features two white sliding doors and four drawers, a configuration that is rarely seen today.
The cabinet comes from the original owners in Noordwijk, where it had been part of an interior with multiple Pastoe furniture pieces since the 1950s. A beautiful provenance that clearly shows how these furniture pieces were often purchased as part of a complete, modern interior at the time.
All the teak wood has been fully restored. The wood has been carefully sanded, nourished, and re-finished with a protective semi-matte finish, bringing out its warm color and rich wood grain beautifully. The two white sliding doors, however, have been deliberately preserved in their original condition and only cleaned. The existing patina and signs of wear tell a story of the cabinet's more than seventy-year history and enhance its authentic character.
The layout is typically Braakman: clear and practical, but with great attention to detail. Behind the two sliding doors, there is ample storage space with two shelves, while on the right side, four drawers are placed with Braakman's characteristic dust-free construction. The slender metal legs visually lift the cabinet off the floor, giving it an airy appearance. The small metal handles of the drawers complement this nicely and form a subtle contrast with the warm teak and white fronts.
A special piece of Dutch design from the 1950s, where material, functionality, and clear design come together beautifully. Thanks to the combination of restored teak and the deliberately preserved original sliding doors, this cabinet has exactly the right balance between well-maintained and authentic.
