Luxo industrial arhitcture industrial design Jac Jacobsen.Luxo L-1 type lamp, one of the most famous and iconic desk lamps in the world. The lamp was designed by the Norwegian Jac Jacobsen in 1937. The basic idea was given by the British George Carwardine's "Anglepoise" lamp, which Jacobsen further developed and perfected. The arm system imitates the action of the muscles of the human arm (action-reaction principle) using tension springs. This allows the lamp to be moved anywhere and remain there without being fixed. This lamp was inspired by the Pixar animation studio mascot, the little jumping lamp (Luxo Jr.). To date, more than 25 million units have been sold worldwide and are part of the permanent exhibition of several design museums. The company was founded by Jac Jacobsen in 1934 in Oslo, Norway. The name comes from the Latin word "Lux", meaning "I give light". Although a Norwegian brand, production soon started in other countries: Luxo lamps were made in Sweden in 1939 and in Denmark in 1949. Judging by the inscription on the lamp, this is an early, classic piece, 1940. In very nice condition. An iconic piece, it fits into any interior.
