Product description
A wonderful work by the great master Luis Taberner y Montalvo (1844–1900). This oil on porcelain is one of the Madrid artist's last works, painted just four years before his death. It stands out for its quality, beauty, and the exceptional nature of both the subject and material. This oil on porcelain piece was used in an important mesón or inn of the era to present the Menu, serving as a clear reflection of the good taste and the importance placed on depicting every detail of daily life in an elegant and distinguished manner.
The composition features a cook preparing a delicious stew on the right, surmounted by beautiful "Menu" typography. A specific T-shaped frame leaves the left margin open to list the dishes tasted by Madrid's most select clients since 1896. The fragility of the vitreous porcelain adds significance; considering the daily bustle of a restaurant, its survival for over 120 years is incredible. Now we can enjoy it, and who knows, perhaps... display delicious dishes on its menu once again.
