Extraordinary modular Stropiccio sofa by Luciano Frigerio, an authentic rarity of 1970s Italian design, published in Domus in 1975, perfectly embodying the visionary and sculptural spirit of Luciano Frigerio. Comprising five large modular lounge chairs, entirely upholstered in fine original aqua-green suede, the sofa captivates not only for the elegance of its materials but above all for the possibility of creating a true sculptural wave. When the five elements are joined together, the seat line transforms into a fluid and continuous movement, a soft and scenographic wave that flows through the space with lightness and personality. The satin brass bases, shaped to follow the undulating profile, add a precious and luminous touch, further enhancing the interplay of forms. The modular system also allows for the separation of individual elements, creating independent lounge chairs, each with its own sculptural presence, but it is in the wave composition that this sofa reveals its full charm and uniqueness: a true statement piece capable of defining the style of a room on its own, perfect for contemporary living spaces, scenographic interiors, and high-end environments. The generous seating, enveloping cushions, and the welcoming texture of the suede offer superior comfort, while the iconic silhouette, published in the pages of Domus in 1975, makes this model a collectible item, extremely difficult to find in such original condition. Excellent vintage condition, with minimal signs of use consistent with age. Original suede upholstery intact and supple, brass bases perfectly preserved.

Luciano Frigerio, born in Desio in 1928, left an indelible mark on the world of design and furniture making, inheriting a family tradition in fine cabinetmaking. His early education, culminating in a diploma in accountancy from the Pio XI College, was enriched by his passion for furniture design and musical composition.
The socio-economic context of the Brianza area in the 1960s offered entrepreneurial opportunities in the art of furniture making, and Frigerio knew how to seize these possibilities. Frequenting renowned workshops and meeting prominent figures such as Gio Ponti and Franco Albini inspired him to transform the family business into an enterprise oriented toward the international market. In 1973, Frigerio was awarded the title of Commendatore of the Italian Republic, in recognition of his dedication to fine cabinetmaking.
The distinctive hallmark of his career emerged with the realization of his dream: furniture as a unique piece. Assisted by a team of technicians, Frigerio created the “Solid Wood Sculpture Furniture” and the “Sculpture Beds in Cast Bronze,” representing a unique alternative to the industrial production of the time. These one-of-a-kind pieces embodied artisanal excellence and the fusion of precious materials, positioning themselves as works of art in the design landscape.
Collaboration with renowned Italian architects and designers, including Franco Albini, Sergio Asti, and Paolo Portoghesi, consolidated Frigerio’s position in the design world. His conviction that architects could design unique furniture for fine cabinetmaking guided the company’s philosophy, characterized by the production of numbered and signed pieces, each one of a kind. Between the 1970s and 1990s, the company expanded its presence by opening ten showrooms in major Italian cities.
Recognition of his contributions to design culminated in the conferment of the title of Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in 1989. Frigerio’s works grace important art galleries in Italy and abroad, earning awards at events such as the International Exhibition of Italian Furniture (Salone Internazionale del Mobile Italiano) and Abitare il Tempo.
Permanent exhibitions in Milan, including the Galleria del Sagrato and the “Art Gallery” in Via Montenapoleone, testify to Frigerio’s enduring and recognized presence in the heart of Milan’s artistic scene. His legacy lives on through exclusive creations, celebrating the union of functionality, aesthetics, and artisanal mastery in the world of furniture and art. His influence continues to shape contemporary design, remaining a benchmark for innovation and excellence in the sector.
