Rare and historically significant “Thailandia” bed designed by Ciansky, Shelba, and Luciano Frigerio for Frigerio di Desio, Italy, in the late 1960s. An extraordinary example of Italian modern sculptural furniture, the piece represents the first cast brass bed ever produced by Frigerio and marks the beginning of a long artistic exploration that would define the company’s production from the 1960s through the 1990s.
The project reflects Luciano Frigerio’s vision of furniture as functional sculpture and reveals the influence of the Italian artistic avant-garde of the period, including the celebrated relationship between Arnaldo Pomodoro and Osvaldo Borsani, both closely connected to Frigerio’s cultural milieu.
The headboard and footboard are entirely executed in solid cast and hammered brass, enriched with geometric motifs and sculptural high-relief elements designed by Luciano Frigerio and produced using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. The composition combines architectural rigor with a strong decorative presence, creating a balance between monumental form and refined craftsmanship.
Beyond its functional role, the piece stands as a rare testimony to the experimental and highly artistic direction pursued by Frigerio di Desio during the golden age of Italian design.
The bed is preserved in excellent original condition and is accompanied by its original certificate of authenticity issued by the Frigerio archive.
