THE STORY: This superb 5-piece master bedroom suite was created by master cabinetmaker Giacomo Rondolini in Todi, commissioned by Mr. François Villanova, French Consul in Rome, in the 1960s.
Few people have probably heard of Todi, but those in the know in Italy are well acquainted with this beautifully preserved medieval village. Located in Umbria, in central Italy, near Tuscany, Todi is one of the many towns in this region that are worth a visit, particularly for its rich tradition of classical furniture and high-quality cabinetmaking.
Indeed, the art of carpentry in Todi represents a centuries-old tradition, preserving an immense wealth of knowledge and experience. It remains a key center of this craft, where the specific qualities of the Todi artisan were forged.
Find more information on Todi's classic furniture, the workshops of the master woodworkers, and the non-formal vocational training schools, as well as the cabinetmaking school at the Crispolti Institute, in Marcello Rinaldi's book, "Il mobile classico di Todi. Le botteghe dei maestri del legno, scuole non formali di formazione professionale e la scuola di ebanisteria all'Istituto Crispolti".
