Grimm's fairy tales inspired the most beautiful metal boxes of the interwar period. This one is a striking example. Rectangular with rounded corners (20 cm long, 15 cm wide, 9 cm high), it features on all its sides the most famous scenes from Snow White, in a colorful and expressive popular illustration style characteristic of the 1920s-1930s. The lid depicts Snow White lying in the seven dwarfs' bed, surrounded by red-haired dwarfs leaning over her, a lit candle illuminating the scene in a cottage interior bathed in golden yellow. One side shows Snow White and the Prince in front of a castle, with a deer in the background in a forest landscape. The bottom frieze displays a miniature dwarf village against a green background. The base bears the embossed marking of Damoiseau, a Parisian manufacturer of lithographed metal boxes, very active during the interwar period. Bare metal interior with pronounced rust oxidation.
