Lithograph depicting a scene with masks, created by Domenico Purificato in the 1960s, measuring 89 cm wide by 69 cm high, including the frame. Domenico Purificato (Fondi, 1915 – Rome, 1984) was an Italian painter, a proponent of Realism. He is known for his representations of human figures, landscapes, and still lifes, characterized by strong realism and a particular attention to light and color. Purificato was born in Fondi, in the province of Latina. He received his artistic training in Rome, attending the Academy of Fine Arts. His painting was influenced by Italian Realism, with a particular focus on depicting everyday reality and humble subjects. An influence of Impressionist painting can also be observed, especially concerning the use of light and color. Purificato's preferred subjects include portraits of ordinary people, often captured in moments of daily life; views of the Roman countryside and other Italian regions, with a particular attention to the rendering of light and atmosphere; and compositions of simple, everyday objects, characterized by strong realism and a balanced composition.
