Leon Janssen starts making color woodcuts around 1980. He shows us people and their mutual relationships and we mainly see male/female relationships. Love, passion, envy and jealousy; his works show the game of attraction and repulsion, of (un)fulfilled desire and drama, a kind of dream world with strong men and beautiful women. The main characters in his work remain elusive creatures. His figures linger in an atmosphere of tension, intrigue and anonymity. Janssen had many exhibitions in the Netherlands and Germany. His works are included in private and public collections of banks, companies (DSM), hospitals and the Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht).
