Beautiful and rare Mid - Century panther statue made of papier maché, filled with straw and covered with black leather, yellow glass eyes and white plastic teeth, completely in the style of Liberty of London, circa 1950. This statue has very nice proportions and details, the muscles are beautifully and accurately rendered, typical are the yellow glass eyes, the whiskers are missing, the whole bears a very nice age patina. Liberty of London released several leather animals in the 1950s in different sizes, including giraffes, elephants, lions, panthers, rhinos, hippos, dromedaries and many other animal species. These fantastic figurines have a high collectible value and are highly sought after.
