40 by 56 cm 1kg 500 Large Japanese lacquer tray from the Meiji period, circa 1900, made of traditional black lacquered wood. The upper decoration shows remarkable execution finesse and is distinguished by remarkable relief carving work. The genre birds and flowers stand out clearly to the touch, see photo. The details of the foliage and plumage are precisely engraved with gold powder. The inner borders are adorned with delicate brocade patterns of moniji maple leaves. The underside of the structure is made of solid wood and is raised by 4 original domed brass studs to protect the lacquer. Very good general condition for a centenary object. Some defects on the underside, see photo. To be used as a tray or a work of art for wall decoration.
