Product description
Some ceramics immediately embody a sense of place. This one transports us to Granada, in the heart of Andalusia, to a city where the working of clay has been part of the daily landscape for centuries, as much as it has been part of the history of the arts. This large pitcher is a generous piece, solidly planted on its base, whose apparent simplicity gradually reveals all the charm of artisanal craftsmanship. The clay was thrown, deliberately preserving the presence of the maker's hand. Inside, the lines left by the wheel are still visible. The outline of the opening is not perfectly geometric and forms a small, pinched spout. The large, strongly modeled handle naturally extends the vertical movement of the piece. Nothing here strives for the cold perfection of industry. This is precisely what gives it its presence. On a slightly speckled cream enamel, almost the color of sun-warmed stone, runs a broad old-rose frieze. Highly stylized botanical motifs follow one another, framed by multiple horizontal lines and a geometric frieze. The decoration seems to draw from a vocabulary much older than the object itself. Flowers, foliage, lines, and repetitions almost become symbols. This blending of geometric and botanical elements naturally brings us back to Granada's unique history. For centuries, the city was an extraordinary meeting point for Mediterranean traditions. Hispano-Moresque art left behind a deep appreciation for ornamentation, the repetition of motifs, and the dialogue between architecture, earth, and color. Our pitcher belongs to the artisanal Grenadine ceramics of the second half of the 20th century, when potters continued to adopt traditional forms and ornaments while simplifying them to fit into contemporary interiors. The 'GRANADA' mark, in old rose under the base, precisely preserves the memory of this origin. With its 28 cm height and ample silhouette, it possesses true stature. Placed on a large farmhouse table, a raw wooden console, or a shelf surrounded by old books, it immediately recaptures its rustic character. When confronted with more contemporary decor—light stone, lime wash, linen, natural wood—it becomes surprisingly modern. A beautiful Grenadine ceramic, sincere and warm, which doesn't need to be perfect to be precious. It possesses something far more difficult to mass-produce: character. Additional details: - Brand: Granada - Style: Hispano-Mauresque - Material: Terre - Material: Émail - Colour: vieux rose - Period: seconde moitié du XXe siècle
