Product description
Having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
— John 13:1, KJV
This is a piece that makes me fall silent.
Not only because of its impressive size, but because of the closeness of these figures. John leaning against Christ, his hand resting on His shoulder. The searching looks across the table. The open hand, the cup of wine, the bread beneath His fingers. Familiar details of a familiar story, yet here they invite you to look again.
This large devotional colour print reproduces a Last Supper composition by Adolph Schmitz. Rather than showing the whole gathering, it brings us close to Christ and three disciples. You can linger over every face and gesture, wondering what each man has understood, what he fears, and what remains unspoken.
The deep green and red garments surround the pale robe of Christ, giving the scene a beautiful warmth. Its broad, dark wooden frame holds the composition with a simplicity that suits it. Behind the glass, the print has a fine textured surface, visible in the close-up photographs.
I can imagine it in a room with books and old wood, or in a place set aside for prayer. Wherever it finds its next home, it deserves enough space to be seen—and a little time to be looked at.
Dimensions, including the frame:
• Width: 104 cm / 40.9″
• Height: 85 cm / 33.5″
• Depth: 3 cm / 1.2″
• Weight: approximately 8.3 kg / 18.3 lb
Condition:
An old piece with visible traces of its life. The wooden frame shows scratches, wear and small losses to its finish. The rear paper sealing is aged, torn and partly loose, and the wooden corner reinforcements show old, inactive woodworm holes. There are scattered small marks visible across the image; please examine the detailed photographs.
A small dead insect remains behind the glass near the foot of the chalice—a longstanding guest at the table, whom I have chosen to leave undisturbed.
The exact printing technique and production date have not been confirmed. Offered as an old devotional colour print after Adolph Schmitz, framed behind glass. Only the framed print is included; the surrounding objects are photographic props.
Please look closely at the photographs, as they form part of the description. Questions are always welcome; I am but one click away.
May the pieces gathered here carry their stories into homes where they will be cherished.
