It possesses that very particular elegance of grand German table porcelains, generous without being heavy, floral without becoming exuberant. This large oval Schumann Arzberg porcelain platter, made in Bavaria during the 20th century, measures nearly 38 cm in length. A dimension that immediately gives it a beautiful presence on a table and makes it a true serving piece. Its ivory porcelain is surrounded by a wide, undulating border, worked with slight reliefs and punctuated by small polychrome bouquets. Roses, blue florets, violets, orange touches, and foliage compose a delicate decor that seems to have been scattered all around the platter. A fine dark rim frames the well and elegantly emphasizes its oval shape. The center, intentionally left almost bare, perfectly balances the whole. This is what makes the piece particularly easy to use today: it retains all the charm of antique dinnerware without being over-decorated. Its size and decor allow it to be repurposed as a large presentation platter on a buffet or console, as well as at the center of a beautifully set table. The reverse bears the armorial stamp Bavaria – Schumann Arzberg, which identifies the German manufacturer. Schumann is among those Bavarian houses that produced high-quality porcelain and particularly refined services, today appreciated for their fineness and floral decorations. The piece retains a beautiful antique condition. A few signs of use and slight wear to the rim in places are noticeable, perfectly consistent with its age and visible in the photographs.
