About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
Its silhouette is particularly successful. A long wooden base with clean lines holds two thick, textured, and slightly curved glass panels, whose design evokes frost crystals running across a winter window. Light passes through the glass, catching its relief and revealing, depending on the angle, a multitude of almost botanical patterns. Its true character lies in its large turned wooden handle, composed of a succession of spheres that gradually decrease towards the ends. At the top, a more generous sphere punctuates the whole. A very decorative flourish that testifies to the appreciation for forms in the decorative arts of the mid-20th century. The combination is appealing. The warmth of the wood, the frosted transparency of the glass, and a few touches of metal create an ensemble that is both graphic and warm. Measuring 38 cm wide and 28 cm high including the handle, it has an unusual presence for a letter holder. It's not a small accessory to be hidden away on a desk. Time has left it with a patina that new objects cannot imitate. A few marks of use tell its story without detracting from its charm. The photographs allow for a precise appreciation of its condition and details. A singular piece, on the border of late Art Deco and 1940s-1950s modernism, chosen for the originality of its construction and that rare ability some antique objects have to beautify an everyday gesture.
