A large antique dish whose elegance lies entirely in the combination of ivory earthenware and a deep, particularly luminous cobalt blue. The floral decoration, largely stylized, unfolds in two opposing compositions on the rim of the dish. The flowers with clear outlines are accompanied by foliage and connected by a thin blue line that follows the curve of the piece. A balanced, almost graphic composition, which gives this antique dish astonishing modernity. Made in the first half of the 20th century, between the 1920s and 1940s, it testifies to a period when table decorations gradually moved away from very naturalistic floral compositions to adopt more assertive and decorative motifs. Its beautiful diameter of approximately 30 cm gives it a real presence. It will naturally find its place on a table for serving, but is equally suited for decorative use. On an antique dresser, placed on a console table, or integrated into a wall arrangement of earthenware, its intense blue immediately becomes the focal point. The reverse bears no maker's mark allowing for certain attribution.
