About Wout Speyers
For Wout, everything is about sculptural quality, whether he is designing a chair or making a pair of shoes. The rich history of design is a source of inspiration. By constantly associating and combining existing forms, there is a new design in everything. Not flashy but clear, aware of the connection with the user. Things can always be better and smarter. He creates objects with imagination and a strong grasp of the core material. Down to the smallest detail, with a wink because there is a striking detail in every design.
What does Wout make?
The mail sorting office for the U.S. tax agency IRS, product development for Pastoe, his first chair design added to the Artifort/Lande collection for which he later made Toro, and furniture in-house. A quirky men's shoe with a small ecological footprint, an elegant women's pump with an expressive heel. His creations are not only mass-produced but also executed as unique custom-made pieces. Each new product is made in his studio. Curious about other products from this studio? Check out the different sections on this website. Some products are directly available in the webshop!

Who is Wout?
Wout Speyers (1968, Nijmegen) studied Architecture and Industrial Design at Delft University of Technology. Both specialties were needed in his graduation project of 1996; he designed the museum for historical posters at subway station Spuiplein in The Hague, which is still in use (images IPG). At Neonis Industrial Design, he discovered his love for furniture when he worked on the Personal Furniture System, PFS. In the US, he further specialized in cabinets and cabinetry as Director of Product Development for Goelst USA Inc. in Winston-Salem, NC. The mail sorting desk he developed for the IRS is still used by thousands of federal employees in the U.S. (images Goelst work).
Once back in the Netherlands, Wout went to work in the product development department of Pastoe, a famous hundred-year-old company. Pastoe specializes in cabinetry. He worked on the realization of the Maarten van Severen chairs and redesigned the low-board Frame.
Since 2008, Wout has been successfully designing tables, chairs and sofas in his studio.
In 2019, a long-held dream came true when he began training in Artisanal Shoemaking at the René van den Berg Academy. Immediately upon completion, his first shoe assignments for women's and men's shoes followed. A number of customers have since returned a second and third time.
Recognition and awards
The first chair he made became part of the Artifort/Lande product line and the so-called UN tables finished as runner up at the Montis/Elle Decoration Design Talent Award in 2010.
With the Twister coat rack, he reached the finals of the W.H. Gispen competition for Dutch Originals in 2014.
In Chicago, USA, Wout twice received the 2015 Gold Award - Best of Neocon for Cheval. The design for HBF was awarded in both the sofa and side table categories. In addition, Cheval received the Buildings Product Innovations Merit Award, The Architectural Products Magazine Product's Innovation Award and The Architect's Newspaper's Best of Product Award. The polished stainless steel sculptures of the 'Little Wing' series have been exhibited at the Coelhorst Art Event three years in a row.
His first pump 'Musica è' and his second pump 'Driving home for X-mas' have been included in the Virtual Shoe Museum and on the global Page-a-Day shoe calendar (Workman Publishing) 2023 & 2024. The following year, 2025, the trio of 'Zebra', 'One shoe' and 'One for the Road' followed the same path.
Wout participated in the 9th edition of the 'Craft the Leather' event organized by the Consorzio Vera Pelle and after the presentation at Lineapelle '23 in Milan received both the audience award and the professional jury award with rave reviews including 'Poetry meets craftmanship'.
At the Global Footwear Awards 2023, his shoe/slipper 'One Shoe (fits all) earned an honorable winner's place, with three wins; Winner in MEN'S FASHION & NATURAL MATERIAL FOOTWEAR and Overall Winner in SUSTAINABILITY.
