Pearlescent methacrylate and brass
Very good condition
Two pearlescent methacrylate shells wrap around each other around a brass rod, leaving a slit between them through which light escapes. The material is neither opaque nor transparent: it retains light and renders it through its thickness, giving the unlit lamp almost the same presence as when lit.
Roger Rougier, based in Montreal, founded in the 1970s one of the rare workshops to treat acrylic as a sculptural material rather than as an economical substitute for glass. His luminaires are named after what they evoke — the shell, the tulip: they seek a form before seeking illumination.
Its 104 cm place it at the limit of the Floor lights: it stands on the floor as well as on a console. Original brass base.
