This antique glazed stoneware pot features the inscription LAB Lagny, impressed directly into the material at the bottom of its body. This is a characteristic signature of containers manufactured in Lagny-sur-Marne, notably used for packaging mustard. During the first half and middle of the 20th century, stoneware remained widely used for this type of food production. Solid and minimally porous after firing, it allowed condiments to be stored in good condition while providing a robust enough container for reuse. LAB Lagny pots are part of this tradition and are particularly associated with old mustard packaging from the Meaux region. This example, which can be dated to the mid-20th century, has a very simple cylindrical shape, softened by rounded shoulders and a short, broadly molded neck. Its slightly satin cream enamel gives it a beautiful softness and particularly highlights the simplicity of its lines. Standing approximately 12 cm high, with an opening of about 6 cm, it is preserved in good overall condition. The cork stopper that originally sealed this type of pot is no longer present. Its shape and natural hue now allow it to easily depart from its initial use. Whether as a small vase, a kitchen pot, or simply paired with other antique stoneware, it possesses the understated elegance of utilitarian objects that have become particularly decorative over time.
