About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
This old glazed stoneware pot bears the impressed mark "LAB Lagny", directly imprinted into the material at the bottom of its body. This is a characteristic signature of these containers manufactured in Lagny-sur-Marne and notably used for packaging mustard. During the first half and mid-20th century, stoneware remained widely used for this type of food production. Solid and not very porous after firing, it allows condiments to be preserved in good conditions while offering a container robust enough to be reused. LAB Lagny pots are part of this tradition and are notably associated with the old mustard packaging from the Meaux region. This example, which can be dated to the mid-20th century, features a very simple cylindrical shape, softened by rounded shoulders and a short, broadly molded neck. Its slightly satin cream glaze gives it a beautiful softness and particularly highlights the simplicity of its lines. With a height of approximately 12 cm and an opening of about 6 cm, it is preserved in good overall condition. The cork stopper that originally sealed this type of pot is no longer present. Its shape and natural hue now allow it to easily lend itself to new uses. A small vase, kitchen pot, or simply associated with other antique stoneware, it possesses that understated elegance of utilitarian objects that have become particularly decorative over time.
