Product description
Beautiful vintage wardrobe model 'KU10', designed by Cees Braakman and produced by Pastoe in the 1950s. The cabinet is part of the well-known U+N or Japanese series and is one of the larger models within this line. A relatively rare design in which the characteristic style of the series is reflected on a much larger scale.
This piece comes from its first owners in Belgium, from an interior that contained several Pastoe furniture pieces. In our workshop, the cabinet has been fully restored after years of use, retaining as much characteristic patina as possible. The teak wood has been carefully sanded, nourished, and re-finished, bringing out its warm color and grain beautifully again. The metal base and black plastic handles have also been thoroughly cleaned.
What is particularly striking about the KU10 is how understated its exterior has been kept. Two large teak wood doors define almost the entire front, with only two small black handles as an accent. Thanks to the slender metal base, the cabinet seems to float slightly above the floor, making the whole appear lighter despite its height and size. A large piece of furniture, but visually kept very calm.
Behind the doors is a fully equipped wardrobe. On the left is a spacious hanging section, while on the right, multiple shelves offer space for folded clothes and linen. A large mirror is also integrated into the inside of the left door. Everything is clearly arranged and exactly as practical as you would expect from Braakman.
It is precisely this contrast that makes the KU10 so strong: almost austere in its simplicity from the outside, completely focused on usability from the inside. No frills, but straightforward design where everything has a function. A particularly strong piece of Dutch design from Pastoe's best years.
